3D Modeling Assignment
|
This assignment will concentrate on the creation of a hillshade and a Digital Elevation Model based on photographs that were taken by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The images taken are in the visible spectrum and have overlapping side to side and front to back. The DJI UAS was flown in an automatically based upon a polygon boundary of the capture area, camera specification, height above the ground and specified overlap of images were programmed by the pilot. A student wishing to meet the instructor can arrange for a flight to collect their own data.
Requirements
The creation of the hillshade and DEM is automatic. The data created in Dronemapper should be loaded into a GIS software (suggested ArcMap Desktop or ArcGIS Pro, but others will be considered) and appropriate basemap should be added. The student should examine the results and determine potential problems with the data and suggestion on how better information could be collected. A brief write-up of the process and the meaning of the results should be included with the imagery. For parts 1 and 3 the files created by drone mapper should be included for your instructor. For parts 2 and 4, a single map package (if using ArcMap Desktop) can be sent to your instructor.
Rubric
- 20% completed the a hillshade of the designated area.
- 20% load hillshade into ArcMap Desktop or ArcGIS Pro.
- 20% completed DEM of the designated area.
- 20% load DEM into ArcMap Desktop or ArcGIS Pro.
- 20% report on the results and the methodology.
- Bonus work for creating a Shade Relief using ArcGIS Pro, this is completed after loading the DEM from Drone Mapper. Worth up to 20% additional points.
